Welcome to the future with the Optoma HD 28DSE projector. This is the world’s first projector that has the DARBEE Visual presence processing. Before the creation of the Optoma 28DSE, the only places the DARBEE technology could be found are in Oppo Blu-ray players and separate processors.
The convenient nature of the Optoma HD28DSE makes it a perfect addition to your home entertainment system. Its small size makes it easy to carry around and its brightness feature allows it work in dim areas. The HD28DSE provides brightness of up to 3,000 lumens with a high-grade resolution of 1080p and a 3D video support system which works well with Blu-ray players amongst others.
The addition of the DARBEE processor makes the image, and video quality of the Optoma brighter and details are refined. The contrast ratio of the Optoma allows for bright images with strong shadow expressions. The projector comes with four corner adjustment which properly sets and adjusts the images when it is moved. Another one of the features of the projector is the brilliant color which has ten color enhancement profiles. It has approximately 8000 hours of lamp life when functioning in bright mode. Stream your favorite videos to the projector via the Optoma’s WHD200 wireless HDMI system.
Basics and Setup
The specification of the HD28DSE is 4.5 by 12.4 by 8.8 inches in height width and dimensions. It weighs approximately 6 pounds and thus makes it easily transportable to a backyard movie viewing or store away until it is needed. The projector has a manual zoom of 1.1x and manual focus. Two HDMI 1.4a ports are available and support 3D videos. The MHL capability of one of the ports enables easy connection to your smartphones or tablets. For the 3D feature, you can either use the DLP-link or Vesa RF glasses but not both at the same time. Using the RF glasses with your projector will require the purchase of an optional emitter.
Brightness
As we have come to expect with DLP projectors, the HD28DSE has lower color brightness than white brightness. The result is that the color quality and brightness of the projected images would not be as high grade as it should be.
Performance: 2D, 3D and Lag Time
For the price of the Optoma projector, the image quality is practically near perfect. The presence of the DARBEE video processing allows you to experiment with the settings and settle on what works for you rather than use the default settings. The color balance on all modes on the projector is balanced. The neutral grays transition nicely from black to white. The details based on dark areas shading is also excellent.
Pros:
- Small size and easy to carry around
- 2D and 3D images are in 1080p resolution
- Two HDMI ports, one of which is MHL enabled

Conclusion:
For a small, affordable, and lightweight projector as an addition to your home entertainment system, the Optoma HD28DSE is perfect. It delivers standard quality image for 2D and 3D videos.
